Carla Gonçalves awarded Best Oral Presentation
Carla Gonçalves, PhD student in the Yeast Genomics Lab, at UCIBIO in FCT NOVA, was awarded the Best Oral Presentation at the Comparative genomics of eukaryotic microbes: Dissecting sources of evolutionary diversity Conference, held in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Spain (14 - 19 October 2017).
UCIBIO at the European Researchers Night 2017
On 29th September from 18:00 to 24:00, researchers from UCIBIO - FCT NOVA will be at Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (MUHNAC) in Lisbon, with various activities. The project, “SCILIFE – Science in Everyday Life” aims to aware citizens to the influence and great impact of research in their everyday life, as well as in the resolution of various problems that arise in the daily life of our society.
NMR Spectroscopy unveils new structural insights on Protein-Glycan Quinary Interactions
In the complex and crowded cellular environment, weak intrinsically transient interactions mediate the formation of dynamic protein complexes, leading to a new level of protein structure, the fifth level, dubbed as quinary structure. Researchers from the (Bio)Molecular Structure & Interactions by NMR Lab, at UCIBIO- FCT NOVA, used NMR spectroscopy to demonstrate the existence of quinary interactions between the human lectin, Galectin-3 (Gal-3) and serum glycoproteins, occurring through the Gal-3 lactose binding site.
UCIBIO in the news | Maria Reis’s research uses bacteria to produce biodegradable bioplastics
Six European Projects, representing a total of 3 M€ for three years, have been awarded to Biochemical Engineering Lab (BioEng), led by Maria Reis, full professor at FCT-NOVA. These projects are run in collaboration with other research units and industry companies, and aim to study the production of biodegradable bioplastics by bacteria.
