Main research interests

  • Cerebral ischemia and reperfusion events – ischemic stroke and perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy
  • Molecular mechanisms underlying preconditioning-induced cytoprotection, in particular remote ischemic conditioning
  • Carbon monoxide as a gasotransmitter for promoting cytoprotection and homeostasis in Central Nervous System
  • Mitostasis – mitochondrial homeostasis – controlled balance between mitochondrial biogenesis, mitochondrial function and mitophagy (elimination of damaged mitochondria)
  • Implication of cell metabolism on cell survival and function, namely neuronal function, neuroinflammatory activity of microglia and astrocytic homeostasis
  • Crosstalk between apoptosis, autophagy and cell differentiation
